6 Degrees of Han Solo As I was watching Scream 3 this past weekend I came up with what I feel is a pretty significant theory. I am sure that you have heard about the "6 degrees of separation" and even more the "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" or the Oracle of Bacon theory. Basically it means that everyone, even you, is separated from Kevin Bacon by 6 people or less. Whether or not this is entirely true is unknown because it can't really be proven in any simple way. I have a similar theory that can be proven. All movies in Hollywood are separated from Star Wars by 6 degrees or less. By the way, the connection to Scream 3 was simple - Carrie Fisher (otherwise known as Princess Leia) plays Binca Burnette in that "movie." Let's take a look at a few more examples - Mallrats. Mallrats stars Ben Affleck, who starred in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back with Mark Hamill. This is too easy. How about the blockbuster new movie Harry Potter? This takes only one connection, John Williams. John Williams did the musical score for both of these movies. Have you seen Ocean's 11 yet? This movie is also very easy to trace. Ocean's 11 stars Casey Affleck. His brother Ben, who I mentioned earlier, worked with Mark Hamill on Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back. Let's move onto something a little bit more difficult, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Rocky Horror stars Susan Sarandon. Susan was in Thelma and Louise with Brad Pitt, who starred in Ocean's 11 with Casey Affleck. Need I say more? Let's go even farther back in movie history to M, the 1931 crime thriller starring Peter Lorre. Peter starred in the 1957 movie Silk Stockings with Fred Astaire. Fred Astaire and Paul Newman both starred in The Towering Inferno. Paul Newman later starred and in Fat Man and Little Boy with John Cusack. John Cusack starred in America's Sweetheart's with Julia Roberts, who starred in The Mexican with Brad Pitt, who was in Ocean's 11 with Casey Affleck. I am still working to tighten that one. The last movie that I am going to take a look at today is Memento, a twisted look into the mind of a man with a rare condition. Memento starts Carrie-Ann Moss. She was in The Matrix with Keanu Reeves, who starred in Feeling Minnesota with Cameron Diaz. Well it just so happens that Cameron Diaz and Christina Ricci both starred in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Are you getting nervous, we're up to 4 degrees now. Christina Ricci was in 200 Cigarettes with Ben Affleck, who was in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back with Mark Hamill. I realize that some of these connections are rather odd, and most of them probably are NOT the first movie that you would think of. I am also pretty confident that there may be even more direct connections than these. If you can think of a movie that you would like to consider tracing then feel free to contact me. Update
