If you're trying to cheat a business, it's best not to fill out a job application while you're waiting for the payout.

That seems to be the lesson learned from the case of two people accused of trying to get free food from Foodee's Pizza last month.

On Dec. 13, a man called Foodee's to say that he'd ordered two steak sandwiches the night before, but the sandwiches were burnt, according to an affidavit filed by  police officer Shawn P. Leslie.  The man then demanded, and got, two free sandwiches.

About five minutes later, a woman called to say she'd had ordered two pizzas the night before, but they were not what she had ordered.  She demanded, and got, two free pizzas, the affidavit says.

But the business owner, Rebecca Kiritsy, found that the two night-before orders had never been placed.  By that time, though, both the man and woman had arrived, collected free food, and then left in the same car, Leslie's affidavit says.

However, the woman had filled out a job application while she waited for their pizzas.  The name on the application:  Kimberly Bailey, 22, of 110 Spruce Street. Bailey also left her phone number.  After talking with Bailey, Kiritsy called police.

Bailey and Daniel Linett, 23 of Manchester were arraigned Tuesday in District Court.  Linett pleaded guilty to theft by deception and was fined $200;  a 30-day jail sentence was suspended for two years, provided he stays out of trouble.

Bailey pleaded innocent to theft by deception and was released on $2000 personal recognizance, awaiting an evidence hearing Jan. 22.
