How
to Steal Content and Act Cool

I have a real bone to pick with a certain website out there that thinks
it's cool. I am of course referring to Celebrity Soundboards.
I'm sure that you haven't been there
because my dead grandmother
built a better site about her dentures. Don't waste your time.
It's just a collection of Soundboards that other people made.
Basically the webmaster of
that site just rips off everyone else on the web and refuses to give them
credit where it is deserved. Is it any surprise that Viacom is suing
him for copyright infringement? How doesn't that prove
that he's ripping everyone else off? He wants to be the one
who looks cool and gets all of the attention. Talk about a loser!
I realize that I have a couple of items on my site that I didn't make, but
geez, I at least linked directly to the site of the creator and gave them
proper credit.
This guy (ebaum@celebritysoundboards.com)
is unreal. I just finished up a Homer J Simpson Soundboard and I was
thinking of submitting it to his site until I read his so-called policy.
It's a total sham! Read it Below:
"For
all you webmasters out there that want a plug. We will not post any
soundboards that has an oversized link linking back to your site. I
don't have a problem giving credit where credit is due. You may post
your name or email address in the soundboard file you make as long as it
is not clickable. This means that if the user points his/her mouse over
text and clicks with the mouse they won't go anywhere. If you do include
such information, please make sure it is small and tucked in and looks
good. Rule of thumb, if your soundboard looks to me like a
big advertisement to go to your site, don't bother sending it in."
So I wrote to the webmaster
to tell him about how ridiculous I think his policy is. You can read
the contents of my message below:
Hello,
I am referring to
your rules that if someone submits a soundboard to your site it can't
have an active link back to their site and it can't look like an
"advertisement" for their site.
I
can't think of any reason why I would submit something to you for free
unless it could be used to advertise my site. I could understand if you
were willing to pay for other soundboards, but since they are free you
should be willing to accept these things. Basically you are living off
other people's creations and giving them as little credit as possible.
It's
not "a plug" when someone is the actual creator Why do
you think that artists sign their paintings?. Instead you want to look
like the creator as much as possible. Rock on!
I
am sure that you are just going to post this on your hate mail page. I
am looking forward to "the plug".
sincerely,

Well just as I expected he
wrote back to me to try and defend his "talent." Read his
intelligent response:
why dont you lick
my fuckin balls? when you have a site that is half as good as my shit..
email me..
I guess he didn't get my
point. He thinks that he had anything to do with his site being
good. So that's my tutorial on How to Steal Content and Act Cool.
I hope you enjoyed it. If you get a chance email ebaum@celebritysoundboards.com
and let him know how cool he is.
UPDATE: I just found
out that even the hatemail on his site is fake! None of the email
addresses he listed even exist. HAHA what a joke!
UPDATE 2/15/2003: Do
any of you idiots who keep sending me email think that I really care what
you have to say? I am laughing my ass off because I put up this page
about 6 months ago and forgot all about it. Now Ebaum found it and
is all pissed off so he put up a link to my site so that all of you mental
midgets could come over here and complain. Talk about the kind of
advertising that you CAN'T BUY! I have gone from just over 1,000
page views per day to over 4,000. Thanks Ebaum, keep it up!
Be sure to
read all the HATE MAIL I've gotten
from people trying to stick up for him! It's funny stuff!
